The legend tells that the Tuscan Archipelago has been originated from a unthreaded jewelery of Venus neck, the god of beauty and love, fallen into the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
In this enchanted myth it hide in a little part of truth, because it is undeniable that the islands of the Archipelago are as many fragments of paradise.
On the other hand, few other places in the world can boast an equally rich and varied offer in few kilometers: from the seabed, the true paradise of scuba divers, to the mountains surrounded by secular woods, the beaches and the coves framed by the Mediterranean countryside to the small hill towns immersed in a timeless quiet.

Just 10 km distant from the mainland, with an area of 224 Kmq, Elba is the largest island of Tuscany and the third, by size, of the Italian islands. It has been part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park for a number of years, together with Pianosa, Capraia, Montecristo, Giglio, Gorgona and Giannutri.
The climate is particularly mild with an annual temperature of 15 ° to 16 °; Seasonal averages are 10 ° in winter, 14 ° in spring, 23 ° in summer and 17 ° in autumn. The monthly sea temperatures are: April 19°, May 20°.2, June 24°.1, July 26°.8, August 27°.3, September 25°.5 and October 23°.1.
Due to the variety of its coasts (which are developped on 147 km), for the pleasure of the beaches, for the majestic beauty of the Monte Capanne group (1019 mt), it has rightly become one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions .
The main road network (about 160 km) is completely paved. There are other unpaved panoramic roads for about 80 km.
Formerly known for its iron mines at the beginning of Historical Era, Elba, called by the Ligurians “Ilva”, by the Greeks “Aethalia”, first Ligurian, then Greek, then Etruscan, remained for centuries Roman. In the Middle Ages the Pisa citizens and then the Appian and the Medici were kept. With time he was interested in the European powers that left many traces of their domain.

From the administrative point of view, Elba is divided in eight municipalities: Portoferraio, Campo nell’Elba, Capoliveri, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina and Rio in Elba.
Famous wines and excellent cuisine, combined with the uncontaminated sea, the mild climate and the transparency of the air, make Elba a place of relax, peacefull and tourism appreciable in all the seasons.
